Avalache Conditions: 30cm + of new snow, or significant drifitng, or rain in the last 48 hours.

All our wise skin track discussions about what to watch for tossed out once skins were ripped. We saw no natural activity, pockets of wind and storm slab but nothing that appeared to be cohesive slab. Tested some small features on the uptrack, could make small cracks but no shooting cracks, had one small whumpf that only one of us felt and figured it was an isolated pocket. We stepped out to steeper terrain in a small feature. Skier 1 triggered from thin spot and half of slope ripped. Skier 1 activated airbag was pushed into single 15cm tree awkwardly at top of slide and received a deep thigh bruise for his troubles. Skier 2 went to untangle mate from tree and other half of slope ripped once on bed surface. Needless to say we went home after that. Tree exit skied pretty good thankfully. Our conclusion was micro feature on an unsupported slope, we could not recreate once back on skin track next to and above slide.
