Skied Jumbo Pass area today. A stunner day with excellent skiing and good stability in areas we travelled. There was a supportive crust down 10cm to ~1900m. Above 1900m there was 15 to 20cm of low density storm snow over a well consolidated upper snowpack, making for great "fast" powder skiing. We mostly avoided the alpine due to visible wind-affect up there. We skied a number of steep lines at treeline and below treeline and saw no signs of instability, with the exception of some small pockets of windslab in exposed cliffy terrain around 2100m, east aspect. We also dug a quick profile at 2200m, east aspect (See snowpack tab).
Surface hoar growth to 10mm in size in sheltered areas at treeline. Top 30cm fist to 1 finger hardness. Upper 1m is well consolidated (1 finger to pencil hardness). We had a few moderate resistant planar compression test and ECTN results between 30 to 40cm depth on old storm interface (DFs). We probed for the early Dec crust at 2200m and could maybe feel it down 180cm but difficult to tell.
