Sorry for delayed MIN post – had issues with app/website earlier this week. Hopefully submitting late is better than never re usefulness to the Field Team? Skiied into Big Blue and down into Laughton valley during the onset of the Sat/Sun storm last weekend. Alpine snow conditions were highly variable (there were pockets of good, boot depth skiable snow combo-ed with ‘grabby’ sections, very hard wind slab, and just about everything in between pending aspect & slope) with considerable snowfall and wind occurring throughout Sat afternoon/Sunday. Several of us commented on how many more boulders seemed exposed near glacier terminus around Big Blue than in previous years at this time (low snow pack there this year?). Travel in valley bottoms (below treeline) was easy with a supportive snowpack and several cms of soft snow to break through on top. Precip still falling as snow at Laughton cabin elevation, but not by much (it was warm!).
