Kicking Horse Slack

Rode a tree'd zone off the resort, good quality snow and riding from 2200m down. No signs of instability leading up to avalanche. At 1700m we came across a steeper opening in the trees. I went to scope out the zone from the top. Decided to play it safe and traverse back skiers left to the trees. I traversed back slightly lower just below the crest of the convexity and a healthy size 1.5 slab released behind me. Suspected recent storm slab failure on facet/surface hoar layer approx 50cm deep.
