Went for a journey up Elk Mt today to see how the snowpack handled the rain last night. Clear early morning sky left us with a crust that would support the weight of a snowmobile, skis and/or a person sometimes and not at others. This made for some sporty travel and required caution. Under the crust the snow was moist and well settled right to the ground with a few older crusts still lingering in the mid and lower snowpack. We got a few good views and could see no evidence of any new snow or new avalanche activity even up in the alpine.
