Quick Observation

Cold feet Warm day up past Hartley lake today where it was easy to tell the wind had been blowing by the amount of tree debris all over the snow surface. Travelling up we didn't notice any obvious signs of instability like cracking or whumpfing. When we got to ridge top we dug on a steep southeast facing slope to check on the surface hoar buried January 30th. It was down 16cm in this spot, failing easy in compression tests but not propagating across an extended column test. Which made us think it'll be a bigger problem when we get more snow, but for today it is ok. Skied well spaced, steep trees and had good turns but as soon as we got into open terrain it was heavily wind affected.

Snowpack

Compression test failed as sudden collapse on first easy tap but didn't propagate in the extended column test.
