We skied north and south aspects today and found a variety of interesting things in the upper snowpack. Moderate south winds were actively forming new wind slab above treeline. We skied steep, south facing glades that had a stout sun crust buried under 30cm of low density powder. It skied quite good and the slab/sun crust combo was not reactive to skis. We skied a steep, north facing pillow line above an open creek and found a very reactive storm slab sitting on surface hoar that likely formed last Sunday. This problem only seemed to reach elevations about 50 vertical meters above the creek.
