Quick Observation

We went to Little Sand today and had amazing visibility, it gave us the opportunity to see all aspects and elevations. The Persistant Weak Layer avalanche problem was more prevalent on north - east facing slopes. One commonality was a steep, treed lee feature, where the storm slab over the weak layer was also wind affected. These slopes are the perfect place for surface hoar to grow and remain intact as they are sheltered from the wind that can break the surface hoar crystals up. We will continue to be cautious and take our time with this layer by avoiding steep slopes, lee features and terrain traps.
