Selkirk College's Recreation Fish and Wildlife class dug a number of snow pits as a part of a lab exercise, these are the conclusions from that lab. The snowpack was made of rounding snow, and some areas showed faceting in snow pits at 60cm depth. We dug several small snow pits in close proximity and only one showed facets. None of these snow pits showed any signs of propagating resulting from our extended column test, we concluded that the snowpack here was stable. There was no sign on surface hoar or an outstanding weak layer. Close to the area we dug the pits, at a slightly higher elevation, we felt a whumpf.
