Snowpack

Instability Comment

The main concern was sloughing of the new snow at the higher elevations and steeper slopes. Ski-triggered sloughs ran up to 150' in places, warranting a medium hazard rating in this area.

In spite of small accumulations of snowfall the past few days, hiking along the bare North Fork trails to reach skinnable snow where the summer trail enters the woods is still required.

At mid and upper elevations, about 5" of sparkling powder, undisturbed by wind, carpeted all slopes and aspects including the open area surrounding Dead Tree knob, normally a magnet for wind. Only the upper ridge and east shoulder of Ben Lomond displayed any effects of wind.
