Quick report

We had a conservative mindset today, mostly avoiding avalanche terrain, although we did not see much in the way of instability. We did notice a crust (1-3cm depending on location) in the more open areas. It was usually breakable, but sometimes supportive. Snow was less dense underneath. This didn't make for the best skiing in the alpine, so we stuck to the trees after our first run. It was windy at the top of Troy, but with minimal snow transport due to the crust.

This avalanche appears to be a natural avalanche, and seems to have been triggered recently, but probably not on 12/31, since the crown is a bit buried.
