Observation: Ben Lomond

Lots of surface hoar trailhead to about 8300' pinkie thick. Think it grew more last night. Dont recall any ski tracks without surface hoar at mid to low elevation, surface facets just about everywhere else traveled (in trees and higher, all the way to as high as I went). Got to 9300'. No wind damage. No sun crust encountered above xc tracks but mostly rode e facing, could be some alchemy(surface facets eating sun crust) going on. Was cold on my exit @2pm, no point releases. guessing no or not much additional sun or wind crust for Tommorow. No instabilities noted. Ran into one old timer, claimed most tracks he had ever seen in 25 years of touring. Still lots left imo (I'm from slc). Pretty interesting snowpack, rain rust, persistent slabs. not to often higher is safer. Thanks UAC n all observers(Doug wewer). It is great being able to kinda get up to speed on an unfamiliar snowpack by looking at computer. Tommorows danger will depend on heating.
