Quick report

Aspect
Northeast
Red Flags
Poor Snowpack Structure
Elevation
3231 m

We were mostly in the clouds today, with strong winds gusting on the approach that lessened considerably as we arrived at the sheltered bottom of the bowl. We did not experience any collapsing while skinning up today. The skiing quality itself was quite enjoyable, and was worth spinning a few laps for. The forecaster's ski tracks in the bowl from 2 days ago had been completely filled in and erased from wind loading since then.

Instability Comment

We dug a pit on a NE facing slope at 10,600 feet. Our extended column test fractured and propagated across the entire column, ECTP7, breaking on the fragile facets below the crust.
