Quick report
We parked at 16 mile drop off, ascended 4068, proceeded to take the ridge to Halibut Tail and over to Gov Pk area. We returned by traversing and ascending back up to the ridge between Halibut Tail and 4068. We found a plentiful amount of variable snow conditions since we were on multiple aspects, from thin sun crust, rock hard sun crust, breakable crust, wet snow on the south and south west aspects, faceted soft, breakable wind skin and rock hard wind board on the north east aspects, creamy and wind affect on the north and north west aspects. Sky was Blue bird . The sun felt hot in protected areas like wimp bowl but the slight breeze kept it cooler on the higher ridge. Protected south slopes were baking and becoming unsupportable mid day especially around vegetation. Hatcher is currently skiing like a skied out resort. Old tracks are firm and untouch northernly slopes are skiing beautifully. We did not do any formal snow pits or complete formal tests. Signs of instability: boot pen of almost knee deep on protected lower elevation sun baked south slopes, point releases off the warming rocks and a small slab noted in the avalanche summary.
Avalanche
When we toured from 4068 to Gov Pk and back, we noticed an avalanche had occurred sometime while we didn't have eyes on Sunny Side (between 3pm-5:30pm), about half way down down the Valley of Sin on a south, maybe slight south west slope. Avalanche looked to be skier triggered. Tracks appeared to go in and out of the path.
