Observed multiple shooting cracks while on the skin track. Appeared on convex slopes greater than 30 degrees. The photo was taken at 6310' on a W/SW facing slope. Cracks seemed to be isolated to the uppermost layer of the snowpack, indicating a storm slab avalanche problem. Light winds, Overcast skies with moderate current snowfall. Did not observe any shooting cracks at higher elevations on E-facing slopes that we traveled on later in the day. observed shooting cracks while on the skin track. Appeared on convex slopes greater than 30 degrees.

Snowpack

Multiple buried crusts were present on this W/SW facing slope. The cracks seemed to be in the uppermost layer of the snowpack (storm slab).
