Quick Observation

Great AST 1 group in Fraser yesterday. At tree line and lower alpine elevations snowpack depth varies from 20-150cm depending on aspect and exposure to wind. In sheltered areas 15-20cm of powder snow overlies a 1F slab which overlies a series of crusts. Only a week ago we observed wet snow at the base of the snowpack and around these crusts. With recent colder temps, the entire snowpack is now dry and facets are developing. We dug test pits on a north east facing slope at TL in order to hunt down a previously observed surface hoar layer. We found this layer down 60-80cm and it produced hard, sudden, compression test results. SH at the interface was barely detectable on the crystal screen. Additionally, an ECT produced no result.I wanted to thank the snowmobilers in the area yesterday. I had a big class in some pretty prime riding terrain. Riders recognized this as an AST class and gave us plenty of space. It was much appreciated. Happy Riding!
