Dunderberg

Today we toured up Dunderberg's lowest elevation South facing gully in order to access the N slopes near the Tarn.  We began our tour early and encountered a stout refreeze on the south face. We quickly put ski crampons on and leisurely moved up the slope as we knew it would be a while until the slopes warmed up. We gained the ridge and viewed better snow cover on the N aspect but noted it was too early for the South Aspect to warm and would take more time for any N aspects to thaw. Mid Morning a brisk wind picked up from the west and began to eddy around Dunderberg keeping slopes cold and firm. We waited for the S face to corn up and descended, knowing that with the wind speeds the N faces would stay firm. Overall it was a pleasant day in the mountains with some solid corn skiing. No loose wet instabilities were observed.
