Observed three (3) recent large magnitude natural slab avalanches. Estimated size from the Highway; D.2.5 to D3. Numerous wet-loose also- Up to size D2. *Apologies for poor quality photos... Forgot the good camera. Slab Avalanche #1: D3. Observed @ ~1600... Crown located below the northeast ridge of Elk Mountain. Easterly aspect. Crown elevation @ ~6200 '. Shaded, steep, unsupported terrain. Observed from Marias Pass. Refer to photo for reference. Slab Avalanche #2: ~D2. Observed @ ~1620. Recent slab avalanche observed below the ridge between Elk and Little Dog. Easterly aspect. Crown depth appeared to be ~2'. Crown located near the Elk/ Little Dog ridge line... likely triggered by cornice fall. Apologies no photo. Slab Avalanche #3: D2.5. Observed @ ~1700. Highest point of crown located approximately 300' below the ridge between Mount Shields and False Shields. Crown extends well into the Shields Creek drainage on easterly sub-ridge. Northeasterly aspect ~6500'. This avalanche occurred between 1500 and 1700. Refer to photo for reference.
