Jumbo Cabin Nov 14-16th.
Jumbo Creek FSR had 20-60 cm of ice/compact snow, we made it to the trailhead with chains and a high clearance 4WD.
It was warm and foggy on our walk in Friday. Thursdayβs rain event left a moist upper snowpack with a crust forming near the surface. Friday night brought cooler temps and 10 cm of new snow, which helped dry out the upper pack and made for good skiing on Saturday. When it cleared Saturday afternoon we saw evidence of a natural cycle up to size 2 from alpine terrain. When we left the hut Sunday morning it was +2 C. The surface snow was moist on all aspects and sliding easily on the rain crust below.
The warm temps didnβt help the skiing but there is 120 cm at the Cabin and it feels like a great start to the season in the Purcells! Good coverage begins at 2100 m, we boot-packed down below around 1900 m :)
