Today we had our first field day in the Lizard Range. In a fitting twist, we wound up in Lost Boys Pass to practice our avalanche rescue skills.
While in the field today we did not observe any signs of instability, or any natural avalanche activity.
The snowpack at 1780 m was 100 cm on an E aspect. The upper snowpack consists of boot top deep settled powder, sitting on a thick and supportive crust. On the ground there is 5 cm of moist Facets. In our profile an Extended Column Test had no results.
Throughout the day skies were overcast, the wind was light from the west, and we're happy to report the snow started falling in the early afternoon!
