Quick Observation
Toured up balu pass to check out STS, ended up skiing Niccy's due to wind issues. Popped small storm slabs at the top which slid to just below the crux (stopped at about 35 degrees) Rest of the line skied very well. Deep, consistent powder. Got heavier the lower we got once below about 1800 meters.
Avalanche Information
Niccy's Notch
Weather
beautiful snowy day, moderate temps and heavy snowfall all day.
Snowpack
Dug two pits on N facing slopes on Balu pass around 30 degrees. Found 120-140 cms of snow. ECTX on one, no results on the other compression test. Rain crust was present at 80cms but was completely unreactive. New snow was not slabby in the pits, but was slabby in exposed areas. We managed to pop a W facing chunk ascending to Niccy's on Cheops, and popped the top of Niccy's ski cutting.
