Quick Observation
The boot packing ridge ascent to the peak was scoured opening up the crust and icy rock. Very glad to have brought my axe and boot crampons. Conditions were meh, very heavy snow, wind was strong only once on the summit, new snow not bonding well to the crust layer ~20cm below. A few big slides in the area on wind loaded terrain features just below the ridge from yesterday once it warmed up after Wednesday’s storm so route was set to avoid any such features. Several wet loose at treeline from the day before. Didn’t feel any instabilities underfoot nor observed new slides during the day based on our specific route. More slides surely to come with the warmest days of the season coming this weekend. Was still able to ski back down to the road though that won’t last much longer.
