Be wary the N, NW, NE aspects where wind transport has loaded these slopes. While touring/skiing we noticed widespread shooting cracks but no movement beyond the initial fracture. Group consensus on today’s forecast is that there is a CONSIDERABLE to HIGH likelihood of triggering an avalanche within the new storm snow in avalanche terrain.
Avalanche
Combination of new snow and wind led to rapid loading of N, NE, NW facing aspects. While on the skin track, we avoided a steep chute with some convexity above us. Once higher, group lead intentionally triggered the convexity. It broke as expected with low energy and started a small slide within the new storm snow. The slide traveled 30 yards and stopped. Slope angle was 38 degrees.
