Quick report
We were out on our first day of our 3-day Women's Motorized Level 1 Avalanche class and the goal of the day was to keep it simple and prioritize rescue practice. The instructors were in this same location exactly a week ago and conditions in this area hadn't changed much. There was just about the same amount of open water and creek crossing, which had to be chosen wisely. Heavy saturation of water content on the snow surface was plainly visible due to the warming temperatures. Temps easily reached the mid to high forties. This was confirmed by the Forestdale Creek Snotel weather station. HS in our site location for rescue practice was just shy of a meter and digging in the moisture laden snow made it similar to actual avalanche debris. We witnessed no signs of instabilities. Temps were very warm for this early in the season and scattered clouds broke away several times allowing for ample radiation of the snow surface.
