Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
On the ascent, further down from the avalanche we experienced a vertical crack... and further up from that and closer to the avalanche, we had a lot of shallow wind slabs collapse and crack under foot.
Avalanche
Small wind slab broke under feet and took my partner for a short ride. The avalanche was going down the mountain at a very slow pace and was not very deep, so my partner was able to self extricate. Location was maybe 500 ft below the summit of Ruby Mountain on a North facing slope. It was about 3pm when the event occurred. It was about 6 inches of depth, width was maybe 100 ft. Slope angle was maybe 35 degrees at the steepest part, but quickly decreased to a much more shallow slope.
