Quick report
We found soft transitional snow on the south and southeast-facing aspects of Tallac today with some cornlike snow at lower elevations. The surface texture remained rough in many areas, with ample evidence of the previous big winds. We saw raised "reverse" ski tracks and skin tracks. Several ridges and mid slope benches were largely stripped of snow with many rocks visible. Some south-facing chutes were less filled in with snow than one might assume. On our descent of a south-facing ramp at 9200' just before noon, we found soft transitional snow. Around roughly 8700' the snow became more cornlike. On our exit through multiple aspects, some north-facing spots remained firm, but others held very slow, soft snow. The pullout on 89 at the summer Tallac trailhead/Mt. Tallac Rd (across from Baldwin) was not plowed at all.
