Quick Observation

Evidence of widespread natural cycle in the last week. Numerous natural size 1 wind slab avalanches in convoluted tree line terrain. Several size 2-3 wind and deepslab avalanches in steep North, east and west facing alpine features. More recent (last 48hrs) loose wet activity on steep rocky south facing slopes up to size 1.5. Average snow depth of 220 cm at Treeline. Surface highly wind affected (sastrugi, hard slab, and wind prreased. Clear nights and cold temperatures promoting surface faceting, Light to moderate winds have limited Surface hoar growth in the Alpine. Supportive midpack of mixed forms sits on 40-60 cm facets and swap the hoar above the ground. Our primary concers were lingering old hard windslabs in the alpine with the potential to step down to the basal weekends. We managed this by avoiding obvious thick/thin snowpack areas and larger unsuported wind loaded features. Although I suspect that it is becoming increasingly unlikley to trigger these old windslabs I still don't have enough confidence in the snowpack to increase my exposure to larger features or more complex terrain.
