We went north of Sparwood today to monitor how the snowpack reacted to the recent warm temperatures and sun. As expected, now that the temperature has dropped off you can find a crust everywhere except northerly aspects treeline and above. Steep slopes that face the sun take the win for burliest crust. The alpine seems to have taken a walloping from all the wind too. Having been scoured first by west winds then recently east winds, it was hard to see anywhere I'd want to go in the alpine. We did find some soft snow, free from surface crusts, in sheltered north facing slopes around treeline.
