Quick Observation
We went for a mellow tour out to Quartz Ridge this morning and early afternoon. Leaving the boundary, the skies were mostly clear with some scattered cloud and winds were light out of the SW. Travel was easy, 5cm fist snow on top of settled mid pack, scoured conditions once at ridge top. By midday, the skies were completely overcast, and snow began to fly at 1215. Winds were light from SW at ridgetop. Once we began our descent, we found the windslabs pretty quickly- on one small convex feature with a forming cornice, the slab was about 40 cms thick, cracking under the boot. I was able to get some chunks to pop off, but the slab was stubborn on this feature with no propagation observed. With our group, we then stuck to mellow terrain, avoiding steep features and convexities. At 1300 at 2240m it was snowing S-1, overcast, with an air temp of -7. Winds were mostly calm, with light gusts from the SW. Cloud level looked to be about 2600m. Ski quality was a bit hooky in the ALP but still pleasant. TL and BTL snow was quite good and we overall had a good walk and some decent turns.
