Wind Effect Everywhere! Widespread wind effect well below treeline on any remotely open areas. Saw lots of wind loading on many different aspects. Temperatures rose quickly throughout the day from a -16 in the morning to -7 by the afternoon. The heat of the sun could definitely be felt.
Snow conditions were: Crusty, Hard, Deep powder, Wind affected, Powder. Weather conditions were: Cold, Sunny. We rode: Mellow slopes, Convex slopes, Steep slopes. We avoided: Alpine slopes, Open trees. Riding quality was good.
Avalache Conditions: Slab avalanches today or yesterday. Whumpfing or drum-like sounds or shooting cracks.
Snowpack
Snowpack is extremely variable depending on exposure wind. Whumping was noticed however there was no shooting crack and the disturbance seemed to no propagate.
Avalanche
Ski cut triggered small pocket of snow on a convex feature. This area was however not very wind affected at all. The snow that slid was the recent storm from last Sunday with a depth roughly of 15-20cm. Due to the sheltered nature of the spot seems possible that it could be a lingering storm slab from lat weekends snowfall.
