Quick Observation

Mild temps throughout the day, light winds at ridge top from the SW, 10-20cm of new snow overnight depending on elevation. There is a crunchy, supportive crust down ~10cm in the valley-bottom up to 1100m. Rode a variety of aspects in challenging and complex terrain up to 45 deg and sloughing was minimal. Riding near ridge top was on variable surfaces, depending on orientation to wind.

Weather

Short period of light freezing rain late in the morning observed near ridge top. Spindrift was constant on steep N aspects throughout the day.

Snowpack

Test profile 1600m, SE aspect Height of snow 260cm Several uneven breaks and resistant failures during compression tests on old snow in upper snowpack. The December crust is down 95cm here and is bonded to layers above and below. Slab in upper meter of snowpack is still relatively soft and has progressive resistance (F to 1F+).
