Sun in Elkford

Sun is fun! Ya, the snow is kinda wind affected, but feeling the sun on your face in January was worth getting above treeline for a quick lap. Near Mear Lake, we found a stable snowpack with only small lingering wind slabs as a concern. We tried out some steeper open slopes, but the better quality snow is still in the trees.

We checked for the persistent weak layer in a shallow rocky area and found that the Dec. melt-freeze crust was not at this specific location although suspect it is in the area and that it is gaining strength. We had no results in our profile ECTX and CTN
