With 10cm of new snow last night and several weak layers of buried surface hoar combined with poor visibility today we made the decision to avoid avalanche terrain up at Morfee today. We decided to go to the cabin to do some rescue practice and dig quick pit where we discovered weak layers at various depths. We also noticed a small amount of cracking on cut banks beside the road on the way up due to a layer buried only 15cm. With more snow in the forecast, this layer may have potential for more action on bigger terrain features.
