Great snow conditions in alpine with zero wind affect, soft unconsolidated snow top to bottom on most aspects and coverage improving at lower elevations. Steep open solar aspects now have a sun crust. We skinned up from 1200m cut block to 1850m. Most recent rain crust is felt BTL at around 1500m with 20-30cm above which tapers with elevation loss. Skiing back down to this elevation was very pleasant. Probed at 1650m, SW aspect, 220-250cm HS, with 60-80cm HST overlying the raincrust.
Overall we were surprised with lack of recent avalanche activity, definitely was isolated to large high alpine features that saw significant loading in previous storm. We ski cut moderately aggressive rolls in the alpine with no results. We did see one size 2 Na (past 48h) on a wind loaded roll lower down in a North facing bowl that was triggered by a size 1 above. Elevation 1600m. We could also see evidence of a large scale avalanche cycle up to size 3.5 from debris piles at valley bottom during the last rain event prior to the cool down.
