Splittin the Blunt

We split boarded // ski toured at the Blunt Range today. Powder and tight trees were the name of the game.
It was cold, calm and clear so we went up into the alpine and saw previous wind affect from the SW winds we had earlier this week. We didn’t see any avalanches.
We intentionally dug on a shallow, rocky slope to see what‘s going on with those basal (bottom of the snowpack) crusts and facets (weak poorly-bonded crystals). They are there but we did not produce any Extended Column Test (ECT) results on this layer. Instead we made non-propagating results within the new snow and wind slab up to 40cm deep with moderate loads.
We’re still avoiding areas with shallow snowpack mostly for the better ski quality but also to avoid making avalanches.
