New Year’s Day delivered as we were pleasantly surprised with better than expected snow quality. With a later start to the day, our group had easy travel with great snow coverage on the road (a few sharks on the downhill to look out for). The forest trees were the main crux of the day, especially for the split boards. Board crampons would have been helpful as it was quite icy! Once past tree line, the snow was wonderful. There appeared to be 20cm~ of new snow since Sunday with a FL around 900m. We toured towards the Ledge side and continued up to Cleavage. We saw no signs of instability, light snow falling through the day and overcast conditions. Cleavage rode wonderfully, with deep powder turns down the apron. The top of Home Run continued to deliver great turns, until we got squeezed out by tight Christmas trees and the open creek. A decent ski out, but could definitely use some more snow coverage, covering some trees and filling in the creek holes.
