Variable at different elevations

South Columbia

Variable conditions in kokanee. Explored west side of park (E/NE aspect). Interesting snowpack and weather. Weather - intermittent heavy flurries, with some wet mist at times. Snow: Above treeline - thin, weak crust ~10cm down with pow on top. Hand shear test sudden planar with mod/mod-light force. Treeline - thickest crust, albeit still thin, non disruptive to riding. This crust did not exist here when riding ~dec 8th and surprised it developed given the aspect's minimal sun exposure and usual cools temps from high elevation. Below treeline - pow. I guess inversion, sun, and high temps have eluded this elevation and aspect??
