<p>Powder Valley isn't living up to its name yet this year...
10cm of snow at the parking lot
30cm at the first creek crossing
At 1200m we found 80 to 100cm on leeward slopes
At 1600m snow was severely wind effected with pockets up to 30cm deep
The morning was clear and -5 with light winds from the south. Nil for precip
The afternoon stayed clear and sunny with temps reaching -3. As we approached alpine winds increased to approximately 40km/h with blowing snow.
Observed shooting cracks as we moved through subalpine terrain. Witnessed micro wind slabs breaking off underfoot as we climbed over small convexities on low angle terrain. We saw a few old avalanches on north-facing aspects at approximately 1400m, In wind deposited couloirs. All seen from a distance in various locations.
