Pine Pass

Did a ride for our AST2 course. Saw a size 1 avalanche under a broken cornice on a north east facing slope. Was probably a couple days old. Saw some shooting cracks in wind loaded areas. We avoided winded loaded slopes and slopes under cornices. Dug a pit on a NE FACING convex slope. Surface hoar layers at 15cm and 45cm. On the compression test, the shallow layer reacted on tap 5 (easy) while the lower layer reacted as a hard 5. The lower layer 45cm down did not react on our extended column test.
