Burger Butte/SW Wallowas

Current snowpack conditions include challenging travel and a variety of surface conditions. Good skiing and riding is still possible, but not without significant time and effort. My partner and I had no concerns regarding stability. 

Throughout our travels we found as little as 1cm and as much as 10cms of new snow on a firm crust on all aspects, with the larger amounts of new snow being found in terrain over 7500' and sheltered from the wind. The surface snow remained firm throughout the day. On a N facing slope at 7800' (in an obviously wind loaded area) we found 410cms of snow. This location had previously avalanched (1+ week ago, unknown date). This avalanche appeared to be a very wide thin storm slab (~18cms) which stepped down to a thicker 45cms storm/wind slab in one location. We could not reproduce any fractures at exactly 45cms, though various layers of older storm snow failed in shovel shear/compression tests. The 1/31 interface was noted down 120cms and was 1F+ with obvious rounding.
