Quick report
Easy driving access to lower Gash TH at 4800 ft, with about 4" of wet snow. Temp was about 32 degrees. 8" of new snow at upper TH (5800 ft), and increasing amounts of new snow and wind as we gained elevation. Estimated 16" of new snow at 7000 ft and 24" of new at 8000 ft (total snowpack of 5-6 ft). Dense snow underneath so that we only sunk in a few inches while skinning, except for deeper light snow on top on leeward side. We did not dig a pit but saw no signs of instability on slopes up to 35 degrees. Wind was uncomfortable at times, and light snow on top quickly filled in our skin track. Temp was 13 degrees at 8000 ft at noon and about 10 degrees at 3 p.m., and was 20 degrees at the bottom at the end of the day. Snowfall quit during the afternoon. We were able to ski down to 6000 ft, which is the lowest elevation at which we felt old snow underneath.
