Quick report
Phantom skin track was a bit rough with trees impacting surface snow quality. In open areas it was not nearly as bad. Above 5k, conditions became wintry and stayed that way until the sun poked out in the early afternoon. The new snow on south facing slopes consolidated into slabs very quickly and was failing readily in small slabs when skiing down open slopes at the top of the Phantom. Other signs of spring were lingering too. A narrow but possibly deep glide crack was observed within the Slot couloir about midway down on the skiers left side. Another observation should offer photos.
Avalanche
Coming down Phantom around 1 pm, small D1 wet slabs were failing readily. Not lots of snow but enough to knock you off balance if unprepared and take you over into terrain traps.
