Quick report

Collapsing
isolated

Couple laps between 5k’ and 4200’, skinned up through north aspects, skied W to SW mostly. Hand pits on the up track on north facing road cuts found 2-3 cm thick graupel/rimed PP layers at 30 cm and 45cm down, hand shear on isolation to the lower graupel layer. Weak slab in the new snow, F to 4F at most. HS in the 1.5-2m range near 4800’ on treed N aspect. No cracking observed, and test slopes were sluffy. Tree wells and buried saplings created locally hollow snow pack and provided one whoomph. Test pit near 4400’ on SSW aspect had HS 95 cm. CT 12 RP at 61 cm and CT 23 RP at 36 cm, both with on graupel/rime layers. ECTX. Upper 65cm of snowpack F hard grading to 4F, all sitting on a P-K hard MFcr at 16-32cm off ground - likely the meager low elevation snowpack prior to this storm. Ps was 30 cm and Pf was ~60cm.
