Quick report
- Cracking
- specific
We observed shooting cracks and hand pit failures consistently at and above treeline. The slab appeared to be more reactive on open slopes, where new snow fell on a hard sun crust. Snow was heavy at times, and visibility came-and-went throughout the day. New snow skied well and was not too wet until low in the Commonwealth drainage. On the exit, we observed natural shedding events off of the cliff and below the Avy Swath. We also noted an uptick in treebombs at the exit.
Avalanche
We observed old avalanche debris - with all the new snow it can't have been that old. Debris was planer so we suspect this was a natural slab avalanche, not a shedding event. One skier in our group also triggered a shallow 15-20' wide soft slab in trees NTL, on a S aspect near upper Kendall Lake.
