Red Lake Peak

I went to the shoulder of Red Lake Peak above Crater Lake to compare the snowpack between NE and E aspects. I found deeper snow on the NE aspect of the ridge (60-80cm), and three layers of concern if we get additional loading soon. The facets at the ground were moist but loose (I could get ECTs to trigger it, but not to propagate along it). The facets closer to the surface were weak but without a slab above them, and the surface snow was also faceted. Although the snow on the E aspect of the ridge was much shallower, the layering was similar. Facets at the ground were moist and beginning to naturally clump together, and very discontinuous with rocks and vegetation interrupting the layer. Facets mid-pack and just below a thin surface crust were weak.

Non-avalanche observation: The road to Crater Lake is rutted and unenjoyable, but there's not enough snow off the road for safe travel.
