Quick report

We toured Ophir Peak today.  Partly cloudy skies this morning increased into midday with light snow showers beginning just after noon.  SW winds were gale force by midday transporting light amounts of available snow in near and above treeline areas.  This was forming small wind slabs around 2 to 3'' deep in some areas.  Northerly aspects were still holding cold unconsolidated snow in this area.  We found some wet surface snow on lower elevation wind protected East aspects.  Warming and snow surface melt was very limited due to increasing clouds and wind.   Cloud cover along with light snow appeared to enter the forecast region earlier than expected.
