Lick Cr 8302

The avalanche hazard of triggering a 2 to 3 feet deep slab avalanche  is more likely in shallow rocky terrain and more likely for snow machines to trigger this layer of facets buried 2/8.

We had a few audible whumpfs while climbing low just above the road, around 6300' on flatter areas East-Southeast aspects. No more whumpfs as we climbed. Only other instability was small D-1 wet loose avalanches were being triggered by the Sun on the East aspect near the rocks of 8302.

We found a mostly stable right side up snowpack with one slightly softer/weaker layer of concern:  a hard to trigger layer of rounding near surface facets 76cm (2.5 feet) below the surface that formed during the month-long Januarydry spell and were buried around February 8th.

2 out of 3 extended column tests did not propagate however, the last one did wth energy (SC) after 19 taps.
