Long weekend of skiing at Cain. Saturday was warm and wet, with rain at times to the top. Overnight into Sunday the temps dropped (not before raining most of the night) , with freezing levels dropping below the base, and providing about 10cm of snow in the early AM. Ski quality was good all day, despite a spike in temps creating moist surface conditions at most elevations skied., and very poor visibility in the West Bowl.
Sunday night was clear and cold, setting the snow pack up nicely. The moist surfaces from the day before dried out very nicely, with about 10cm of low density powder on top of a now very supportive rain crust. Surface hoar to 5mm in size was observed all the way down the West Bowl, and was more prevalent closer to water sources in the valley.
Lots of old wet loose avalanches and pinwheeling observed from the Saturday warmth, but no new avalanches observed, even with excellent visibility this morning.
The next system was rolling in when we left around 2pm.
