Quick report
Started from 5300' and skied to 6700' in dense fog, no wind. There obviously had been wind with the warmup storm as I had to cut 5 trees off the road on the way up. The top 8"-10" from the latest storm was light and non-wind affected. While touring up there was no signs of instability. The ski penetration started at about 4" and was closer to 8" above 6500'. Given the excellent field notes from the Avy Pro's and my delays getting to ski, I did not dig a profile, only hand shears and the usual stomping on test slopes along the way, with no alarming results. The top ~8"-10" was super light with facets forming on the surface. Below that the next few inches was consolidating, 'fist' stiffness above the first thin crust below. Unconsolidated snow below the thin crust. No need to go farther down for my objectives... Skied a couple runs on W and WNW aspects with excellent quality snow and no instabilities noted but some sloughing off of turns. By my second run, the sun had come out and made the afternoon even better. It was cold enough to not affect the snow quality. I stayed mostly in the trees and off of the big open faces or the chutes. Cornices have barely begun to form at this point. Coverage is good, but there's obviously some obstacles the lower you ski.
