Quick report
Lots of sun today. We found a thin sun crust all over on our travels. Early afternoon ESE conditons ranged from “meh” to icy, but we thankfully weren’t punching through the first. Dug a pit a ways below the ridge in a mostly open area (some afternoon tree shading) ENE 6320’. Saw some old layers. HS 200cm ECTX. We could not get the column to shear cleanly even with some prying and pushing. Snow depth was dramatically impacted by some wonky winds of the past few weeks. We saw mid-slope wind features that resembled cornices growing uphill from St. Regis basin, baby cornices on the east side of the ridge, and mega cornices guarding chutes on the west side of the ridge.
